The Giving Tree 2024
Asbury Park’s unique holiday tradition continues this year with the unveiling of our fourth annual Holiday Art Tree, a testament to the enduring spirit of giving and creativity that defines our community. Partnering once again with the Wooden Walls Project, we are thrilled to present this year’s installation in the Grand Arcade at Convention Hall—a space that has become synonymous with artistic expression and celebration.
“The Giving Tree” is more than an installation; it is a symbol of our commitment to the creative spirit that forms the foundation of Asbury Park. Conceptualized and brought to life by acclaimed local artists Porkchop and Bradley Hoffer, this year’s design reaches new heights of artistry and tradition. Standing at an impressive 16 feet tall, the tree is constructed entirely of repurposed cardboard, incorporating a modern twist on the traditional pine tree.
Since its inception in 2021, the Holiday Art Tree has sparked conversation, created viral photo moments, and even withstood its share of criticism. Yet, year after year, it has achieved something even greater: bringing people together. This cherished tradition provides a sense of continuity and a shared experience for friends, families, and our community, embodying the spirit of unity that defines Asbury Park.
This year’s design brings a subtle nod to tradition, resembling the shape and symmetry of a classic Christmas tree more than ever before. Each layer is composed of smaller interlocking trees, where every shape plays a vital role in the overall construction. This modern interpretation of a timeless holiday symbol underscores Asbury Park’s role as a hub for artistic and cultural innovation, a delicate balance highlights the interconnectedness of our community—where each part, no matter how big or small, contributes to the whole.
The Holiday Art Tree is more than just a visual spectacle. It is a celebration of sustainability, innovation, inclusivity and as always, giving back. By crafting the tree from recyclable materials, we honor our commitment to environmental responsibility while showcasing the transformative power of creativity.
