What you need to know: We’re Melt. This Fall, the seven of us will be hitting the road for the band’s first headlining tour. We released our debut EP in February 2021. Everyone told us it sounds like we’ve matured––who knows what that means, we still hold hands when we cross the street.
What to expect: Existential pop songs with ethereal jam-sections…somewhere between soul and psychedelia.
Here’s what other people say: “pop-jazz espresso” (Live For Live Music), “one groovy superorganism” (NPR), “a triumph” (The Boston Herald). Wow!
What you didn’t know you want to know: There are more molecules of water in one cup of water than there are cups of water in all the world’s oceans.
Still here? Veronica Stewart-Frommer (lead vocals) and Eric Gabriel (vocals, keys) formed Melt in their hometown New York City in 2017. Soon, five of their friends joined: Marlo Shankweiler (guitar), Josh Greenzeig (drums), Lucas Saur (bass), Nick Sare (sax), and Aaron Alcouloumre (trumpet). The first song the band ever wrote and recorded, “Sour Candy,” went viral and peaked at #5 on Billboard’s US Viral 50 Chart. It now has 6 million streams on Spotify. This unexpected success launched Melt into a double life: college during the week and shows across the Northeast on the weekend. Releasing only four more singles between 2017 and 2020, Melt was already selling out their concerts and landing opening bills with acts like Lawrence, Sammy Rae, and Karl Denson at Webster Hall. The band has also played festivals around the country, including FloydFest (VA), Southwest Invasion (Austin, TX), and the Rhode Island Music and Arts Festival.
During lockdown, Melt released their first full-length body of work, “West Side Highway,” a collection of six songs that make you want to dance alone in your bedroom. But like you, the band’s ready to get back together and thrive off the energy of their biggest crowds yet.

    Dear Friends,

Never have I been more excited to announce a tour. The weirdness we are emerging from has left its mark on all of us and I have been dreaming of the day we could gather in rooms again and shake off its effects together. I will be traveling light this time, surrounded by a small group of friends, performing a set of songs that for me are like mile markers on the map of my life. I spent my time away from the world writing a book, trying to understand more fully who I am and where I came from. I can think of no better time than now, the anniversary of 20 years on tour, to assemble my work on a stage and do what I can to share that history with you through my songs and stories. Like my book, this tour will be called Three Pianos, and while I can’t bring all three of them on the road with me, I hope to channel the wonderful and bizarre affection I have for their place in my world. Any time I embark on some new and public adventure I am filled with fear of the unknown, but if I have learned anything from tours like The Pen and the Piano, from first leaps onto rubber ducks or out on to dance floors beneath parachutes, it is worth taking chances. I am crafting this show with the knowledge it may be the first many of you have attended in a very long time. That comes with pressure, but from that pressure I hope to make something cathartic and worthy of your trust in me. The lights are coming back on, let’s sing together beneath them. — Andrew

    LEGION OF PROG
DOORS OPEN AT 6pm, SHOW STARTS AT 7pm.
For most of the 1970s and into the ’80s, progressive rock ruled the airwaves and concert halls. The music made by Yes, Genesis, Rush, Pink Floyd and other “prog” bands was at once both complex and tuneful, and featured great musicianship and epic storytelling. And we LOVED it!
The Jersey Shore’s own Legion of Prog plays faithful renditions of the finest music from the progressive rock era. We’re returning to Tim McLoone’s Supper Club on Sunday, August 22nd with an expanded repertoire, including several epic-length tunes that are among the genre’s best-loved. (Cue the barking dogs, the lighthouse bells, the rushing water and the chirping birds…)

  • The Wallflowers

    The Wallflowers

    at The Stone Pony

    Event Details

Rock ‘n’ roll is often hard to define, or even to find, in these fractured musical times. But to paraphrase an old saying, you know it when you hear it. And you always hear it with the Wallflowers.

For the past 30 years, the Jakob Dylan-led act has stood as one of rock’s most dynamic and purposeful bands – a unit dedicated to and continually honing a sound that meshes timeless songwriting and storytelling with a hard-hitting and decidedly modern musical attack. That signature style has been present through the decades, baked into the grooves of smash hits like 1996’s Bringing Down the Horse as well as more recent and exploratory fare like 2012’s Glad All Over.

Even so, in recent years, Dylan – the Wallflowers’ founding singer, songwriter and guitarist – has repeatedly stepped outside of his band, first with a pair of more acoustic and rootsy records,
2008’s Seeing Things and 2010’s Women + Country, and then with the 2018 film Echo in the Canyon and the accompanying soundtrack, which saw him collaborate with a host of artists
classic and contemporary, from Neil Young and Eric Clapton to Beck and Fiona Apple.

But while it’s been nine long years since we’ve heard from the group with whom he first made his mark, the Wallflowers are silent no more. And Dylan always knew they’d return. “The
Wallflowers is much of my life’s work,” he says simply. Plus, he adds with a laugh, “It’s pretty hard to get a good band name, so if you have one, keep it.”

Good band name aside, that life’s work continues with Exit Wounds, the brand-new Wallflowers studio offering produced by Butch Walker. The collection marks the first new Wallflowers material since Glad All Over. And while the wait has been long, the much-anticipated record finds the band’s signature sound – lean, potent and eminently entrancing – intact, even as Dylan surrounds himself with a fresh cast of musicians, including Walker.

Which, the front man is quick to point out, is not all that unusual. “The Wallflowers has always been a vehicle for me to make great rock ‘n’ roll records,” he says. “And sometimes the lineup
that makes the record transfers over into touring, and sometimes it doesn’t. But my intention is always to make the Wallflowers record I want to make, using the musicians I have beside me.”

    Micky James + Wildermiss

Born and raised in the shadows of Philly and NYC, Micky James naturally developed a taste for the theatrical and aspired to become a performer from a young age. In his music and personal style, Micky explores a sound and aesthetic that is nostalgic of a bygone era in rock-n-roll music, while still maintaining a contemporary pop ambition. While Micky’s flamboyant fashions evoke the glamour and swagger of past rock icons, his work is both equal parts style and substance. Inspired by the authentic energy of 60’s and 70’s iconic rock band’s, James is successful in crafting a modern and fresh approach to a timeless genre. “I wanted to take pieces of nostalgia and give it a contemporary twist,” he explains.

Wildermiss is an indie rock band from Denver, Colorado. Emma Cole sings and plays synth bass, Joshua Hester plays guitar and Caleb Thoemke plays drums. They have sold out all of their hometown headlining shows since 2017 and steadily gained momentum nationwide with multiple support tours and festival spots. The band is currently working on the follow up to their quarantine singles “Supermagical” and “Italy” with plans to tour until their van dies again like it did in Michigan that one time.

    AshenMoon

When they first began writing their debut album, AshenMoon bassist Garry Beers, singer Toby Rand and guitarist Jimmy Khoury unraveled their personal songwriting and began collaborating a “passion project” in Beers’ garage studio. There, in the heat of the San Fernando Valley, they created the recipe and sound of AshenMoon, a fusion of ’70s, new wave and modern rock ‘n’ roll. Produced by Beers (co-produced by Rand), the album is influenced by the electronic grooves of Beers’ work with INXS, hooky riffs inspired by Khoury’s work with Beth Hart, whilst Rand traverses his range emotionally with tales of heartbreak, love and redemption; something uniquely his own. Mixed by Grammy award winner David Reitzas and mastered by Howie Weinberg (Jeff Buckley), the AshenMoon record is majestically anthemic, whilst remaining magnetically intimate.

“Not since my days with INXS have I felt more connected to music. We made this record from the heart and pay homage to all the great rock bands and artists that have inspired us to devote our lives to music.” – Garry Beers

Lifelong friends and deep-north natives, Michigan Rattlers play heavy-hearted folk-rock with an aching dose of Midwestern nice. Graham Young (lead vocals/guitar), Adam Reed (vocals/upright bass), Christian Wilder (vocals/piano) and Tony Audia (drums) began writing music and performing together in their Northern Michigan high school. They regularly played every bar, cafe and stage in town, developing a musical chemistry informed by the likes of AC/DC, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bob Seger and more.

After a few years apart, Reed and Young settled down in Los Angeles, recorded a short demo, and began  laying locally. The demo found its way in the hands of super-producer Johnny K, and they cut the bulk of their first EP at NRG studios in just one day. This self-titled Michigan Rattlers EP attracted glowing reviews from No Depression, Bluegrass Situation, Relix, Glide, Grammy.com and more. Rolling Stone named the band one of their “Ten New Country Artists You Need To Know.” In 2018, following a massive summer tour that included stops at Bonnaroo, Firefly and Electric Forest; the band released their highly anticipated debut full length album, Evergreen, and added pianist Christian Wilder and drummer Tony Audia to their lineup. The Michigan Rattlers are currently in the studio recording their second full length album in between tour dates.

    American Nightmare

Tickets: $22 in advance (plus applicable surcharges), $25 at the door

To call American Nightmare “iconic” would be a vast understatement — the band has indisputably solidified themselves as legends within the hardcore punk genre and beyond. And now, for the 20th anniversary of their landmark album Background Music, American Nightmare will be performing the album at select shows on the east and west coasts in January 2022.

Since their inception in the year 2000, American Nightmare have offered something different, something deeper. They developed a cult-like following by combining abrasive hardcore with poetic lyrics and have inspired countless bands to adopt a similar aesthetic.

Background Music was an exorcism in depression. It was written and recorded in the Boston winter in the year 2000 and encompasses the violent desperation of youth, a fight against the self, the existential, the in between, the urgency, the carelessness. From a time when poetry and hardcore didn’t intersect— pre-Smiths and Joy Division t-shirts on every hardcore stage— a record whose words went on to be plagiarized in Top 40 hits, visual nods from Kanye West, anthems that lend the crowd’s voice to be louder than the band, responsible for thousands of tattoos, beyond unfortunate suicide notes, a blown ear drum, a torn esophagus, broken bones, and a world of only words, American Nightmare frontperson Wesley Eisold deals in devotion, a cult of sensitivity.

Background Music is anything but what the title implies. A true hardcore classic, from the machine-gun like snare roll of opener “(we are)” into Eisold’s cry of “this is the soundtrack to saying goodbye…” the atmosphere around American Nightmare is electric. Setting a tone that rings through anthems like “am/pm”, “hearts”, and “your arsonist,” these and the rest of the songs on the album blend a violence and vulnerability into something rabid, hopelessly romantic, and refreshingly real. The record would go on to be regarded as one of the most influential hardcore albums of all time.

Serious songs from goofy people. That’s what you can expect from diverse, Midwest indie-rockers, Motherfolk. What started out as a writing project among two college friends turned into a fully realized band untethered to genres, with an endlessly bright future.

Composed of Bobby Paver and Nathan Dickerson on vocals and guitar, bassist Clayton Allender, drummer Ethan Wescott, and Karlie Dickerson on keys Motherfolk are not only bandmates, but best friends. The band’s close-knit relationship allows each member to be their most authentic self, leaving every ounce of their souls to be poured into each song and high-energy performance.

Despite their light-hearted, groovy-rock sound Motherfolk is dedicated to creating a much deeper connection with their fans. They don’t shy away from the taboo, taking on heavy topics with a light heart. The results provide us with music you can dance to, whose impact is felt long after the song has ended.

The band’s quirky friendship and social media posts originally drew fans in, but their connection to the music kept those fans around. Since their formation Motherfolk has been on a steady upward trajectory, amassing well over 5 million Spotify streams on their three studio albums and selling out shows while touring heavily across the United States.

    LETTUCE

Tickets from previously announced date will be honored

LETTUCE both feed the rich history of funk and also combine it with strains of hip-hop, rock, psychedelia, jazz, soul, and go-go. The GRAMMY® Award-nominated six-piece — Adam Deitch [drums, percussion, arrangement], Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff [guitar], Erick “Jesus” Coomes [bass], Ryan Zoidis [alto, baritone, tenor sax, Korg X-911], Eric “Benny” Bloom [trumpet, horns], and Nigel Hall [vocals, Hammond B-3, Rhodes, clavinet, keyboards] — once again break rules, push boundaries, and uplift on their sixth full-length studio offering, Resonate [Round Hill Records].

To date, their discography comprises Outta Here [2002], Rage! [2008], Fly [2012], Crush [2015], the EP Mt. Crushmore [2016], the live album Witches Stew [2017], and Elevate [2019]. The latter lifted LETTUCE to new heights. Notably, it garnered a 2020 GRAMMY® Award nomination in the category of “Best Contemporary Instrumental Album” and bowed at #1 on both the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Albums Chart and iTunes Top R&B Albums Chart. Elevate also soared to the Top 15 on the Billboard Jazz Albums, R&B Album Sales, and Heatseekers Charts. Not to mention, it put up 3 million streams within six months, and simultaneously received acclaim from Brooklyn VeganBillboardRolling StoneNPR, and more. Throughout 2019, LETTUCE siphoned all of this energy back into the studio. Written and recorded during the same Colorado Sound sessions that spawned Elevate, the band brought Resonate to life alongside iconic producer and engineer Russ Elevado [D’Angelo, The Roots, Erykah Badu]. Lettuce introduces this chapter with the first single “Checker Wrecker” featuring Washington D.C. go-go music legends Big Tony Fisher of Trouble Funk and Tyrone “Jungle Boogie” Williams of Rare Essence.
