The Silverball Museum Makes Its Mark in Asbury Park

Upon walking into the shop, "Born in the USA" hums from the speakers, and what an appropriate song it is for the venue.  The Silverball Museum exhibits a pastime well known to those across the United States-pinballing. With a collection of over 100 machines, The Silverball Museum offers a taste of the best pinball games from the 1930's to present.

Rob Ilvento, founder of the "museum," opened his doors in late May of 2009 in hopes that his love of pinballing would carry over to everyone including pinball enthusiasts, children, and families. Located conveniently on the Asbury Park Boardwalk, The Silverball Museum is a fun and recession-friendly way to pass the time. Rows of pinball machines stretch across the space, clinking and pinging away.

"Nine year olds get to play the same games their dads played when they were young," Ilvento said, "It's a very cool thing." Bill Medwin, general manager of The Silverball Museum says what excites him the most is "watching people relive their past." Medwin adds that seeing the kids come in for birthday parties is quite an experience.
"Forget the cake; they just want to play the games!"

Ilvento is not just into the business of playing the games; he also advertises an interest in buying, selling, and repairing other machines.  In addition, the shop is always available for parties, private events and will be featuring gaming leagues in the near future.
