    MYSTERY SKULLS
    with Phangs and SnowBlood

Mystery Skulls is an electronic dance-oriented neo-soul and vintage disco-influenced outfit centered around lead singer/songwriter Luis Dubuc. Dubuc was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela until he was eight, when his family moved to Toronto, where he fell in love with dance music as well as hip-hop and metal.

After moving to Dallas, he played drums for the metal band Thirty Called Arson and formed the electronic pop project The Secret Handshake, whose 2009 album, My Name Up in Lights, reached No. 7 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart.

In 2011, Dubuc ended The Secret Handshake to focus on the more dance-oriented Mystery Skulls, which took its name from an episode of the Nickelodeon series Are You Afraid of the Dark? That year, Dubuc moved to Los Angeles and released Mystery Skulls’ self-titled debut EP, which featured the single “Amazing,” after which he signed to Warner Bros. in 2013 and collaborated with Chic’s Nile Rodgers on the project’s debut album, Forever, which was released in 2014.

Dubuc returned in 2017 with the single “Music,” the first taste from his sophomore full-length, One of Us.

    Event Details

Considering his multitude of talents, ambition and the intense momentum Chris Mardini’s got behind him as he gears up to drop his highly anticipated debut EP, the 17-year-old NYC based indie alt rocker shares a most ironic sentiment just before the hook on his edgy, hypnotic power ballad “Something’s Going On,” an introspective ode to a young man’s lack of motivation. He sings earnestly, “And all the times I wake up, simply uninspired/I’m understanding now, I need to start a fire.”

Since hooking up and vibing in the studio with veteran producer Marc Swersky, that fire’s been building, the inspiration’s  flowing non-stop, opening a powerful path for Chris’ emergence with the EP’s lead single, the cleverly titled “Retrospective Outlook” With a thru-line that taps into Chris’ passions for 90’s and classic rock (Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, Red Hot Chili Peppers) and hip-hop (from NWA and 2Pac to Kendrick Lamar), the track fuses high octane, anthem like modern rock energy with lyrics that pay homage to the inspiration of influential “higher ups” in the singer’s life even as he knows he has to start overcoming challenges on his own. It includes a hard-hitting rap section with piercing lines like, “And I got all these people coming, I see the facades/I feel the pressure, it’s pressing and now I’m gonna miss my shot.”

Music of Phish for Kids Halloween Spooktacular

The Rock and Roll Playhouse, a family concert series hosted at historic music venues across the country, allows kids to “move, play and sing while listening to works from the classic-rock canon” (NY Times). Performing songs created by the most iconic musicians in rock history, The Rock and Roll Playhouse band offers its core audience of families with children age ten and under games, movement, stories and an opportunity to rock out in an effort to educate children and explore their creativity. The Rock and Roll Playhouse is an early and often first introduction to a child’s lifelong journey with live music and rock and roll.

This concert for kids and families shares the music of the artist named above with a new generation of music lovers, but is not associated with or endorsed by the artist. All children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.

The Rock and Roll Playhouse knows that little ears are sensitive, so we turn down the volume at our shows.  However, all kids experience music differently and you may find that your child is more comfortable wearing hearing protection earmuffs.

    JOE GRUSHECKY & JEFFREY GAINES
Songs & Stories – A Rockin’ Acoustic Evening

Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 8 pm

JOE GRUSHECKY and JEFFREY GAINES two great, rockin’ singer-songwriters, favorite sons of the Asbury Park music community and independent Americana artists in the best sense of the term co-headline for the first time in “Songs & Stories – A Rockin’ Acoustic Evening”, two journeymen artists at the peak of their powers, digging deep into their great reservoir of songs and experiences, creating a night that will tell their stories and touch and tickle your soul, in a way that you won’t soon forget!

JEFFREY GAINES has been heralded for his soul-searching lyrics and his powerful live performances. With only his voice and a guitar for accompaniment, he has earned a reputation as a captivating performer, entertaining audiences everywhere he goes. Throughout his career, Gaines has built a rapport with his fans unlike any other in popular music today with songs such as “In Your Eyes,” “Hero In Me,” and “Headmasters of Mine.” Gaines goes as far as letting his fans influence the songs he performs each night. “When it’s just me playing, I only know the first song I’m going to play, but from there the energy and the vibe tell me what the next song is going to be. Someone may yell a song, and I’m like ‘Exactly! Good call.’ That’s so fun to me.” Jeffrey Gaines’ long-anticipated CD, Alright, was released earlier this year.

Joe Grushecky is the epitome of a blue-collar roots-rock & roller. Born in the coal mining hills surrounding Pittsburgh, Pa., Joe and the band have cut a path of devastatingly honest shows from Pittsburgh to Asbury Park and beyond. In the musical tradition of artists like Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, John Mellencamp, Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen, Joe Grushecky has been writing American blue-collar songs that draw from classic rock ‘n roll, Memphis soul, folk songs, blues plus a dash of punk since the late 1970’s. Recordings such as “Have A Good Time But Get Out Alive”, the classic “American Babylon” (Produced and joined on the subsequent tour by Bruce Springsteen), “East Carson Street”, the stunning “Somewhere East of Eden”, “It’s In My Song” and recently a very passionate protest anthem “That’s What Makes Us Great” (again in collaboration with Springsteen) and “More Yesterdays than Tomorrows” are just a sample of the over 20 recordings that present Joe’s very singular, “down home” take on “living, working, family, politics and loving” in America. “In a better world, Joe Grushecky would live in a mansion down the road from Springsteen…Who do you know who has made back-to-back great albums more than 20 years ago and is doing the same thing now. There’s Dylan, Lucinda Williams, Neil Young, Springsteen, maybe a few more. He’s on that level.” Joe’s music and his band have certainly stood the test of time. “For almost 40 years publications such as Billboard, Rolling Stone, Village Voice, No Depression and many others have hailed him as one of rock & roll’s most talented singer-songwriters.”

    HIRIE

    with RDGLDGRN, Kash’d Out

Hirie — the frontwoman of the exhilarating reggae band HIRIE — grew up a global citizen. Her father worked for the United Nations and she was born in the Philippines, spent years in Italy, before her family settled in Hawaii, which became her spiritual home.

San Diego’s seven-piece band HIRIE is ready to offer a global spiritual uplift. Melding the balmy island touches of its singer’s beloved home — as symbolized by its moniker’s first letter, a “H” for “Hawaii,” with that feeling of irie , the award-winning group offers a soundtrack of hope. Now, with its masterful most recent album, Wandering Soul , brimming with invigorating female-fronted shamanistic reggae an oasis of positivity is just an album away.

Wandering Soul’s lush construct reflects this depth. The songs feature chord sequences that have a sophisticated, tension and release accessibility. The musicianship is high-level restraint, showcasing that point of mature virtuosity where laying back implies instrumental prowess. The album’s trippy production — the bulk of it courtesy of Danny Kalb (Beck, Ben Harper, Sia) — replete with adventurous textured passages, heady dub segues, and subtle psychedelic flourishes, make it a rare headphone experience for a pop oriented record.

The album opens with the smoldering and ambitious title track — a sonic journey through heartfelt longing, and heady dub passages. The militant “Renegade” features Nahko Bear of Nahko and Medicine For The People and boasts stately horns, simmering grooves, and call-to-arms individuality against the massification of culture. The personal “Melody of a Broken Heart” and “You Won’t Be Alone” shine a light on personal domestic struggles. “I wrote ‘You Won’t Be Alone’ for my daughter with the hopes that she understands my life when she hears me on the radio. I hope she understands how much I love her and how I can be a role model by showing her she can be anything she wants,” Hirie confides. The sleek futuristic electronic textures of “Boom Fire” represents HIRIE’s party vibe and exudes vivaciousness of in the moment HIRIE living.

Hirie is currently working on her third full length album due out in 2019.

Reflecting on the power of HIRIE, Hirie shares this story: “I met a fan who was suffering from six tumors. He shared with me ‘Your music is the reason I get out of bed, you’re my medicine.’ That drives me to push this movement forward to share conscious music. I feel a responsibility and a duty to share a positive message.”

Poised to take bluegrass in bold new directions, singer/songwriter/guitarist Billy Strings is quickly gaining attention for his incendiary live performances and imbuing his take on Americana with distinctive bursts of psychedelic virtuosity. While deeply reverent of the roots of traditional bluegrass music, which his father shared with him as a boy, Strings learned his high-energy performing skills by playing fleet-fingered guitar solos in a heavy metal band in his native Michigan. While he has matured as a player, singer and songwriter in his own right, and re-embraced the music his father introduced him to, Strings has applied the intensity of heavy metal to bluegrass. The end results, as demonstrated on his most recent release, Turmoil & Tinfoil, provide a fresh jolt to the genre. Look for a new album from Billy Strings this fall.

The musical where women get the last laugh as men go over the hill!

Growing up in Florida, Ghostemane (Eric Whitney) was originally a guitar player for hardcore and doom metal bands. Whitney was introduced to rap music when he was the guitarist in the hardcore punk band Nemesis and a bandmate introduced him to Memphis rap.

Whitney graduated from university after studying astrophysics. In 2015, Whitney moved to Los Angeles. Meeting up with JGRXXN, Whitney joined his collective Schemaposse which included artists such as the now-deceased Lil Peep and Craig Xen. In April 2016, Schemaposse disbanded. Whitney began to associate with fellow Florida rapper Pouya. Their friendship resulted in 1000 Rounds, a song that has amassed over 50 million streams across platforms.

In 2018 Whitney released his 10th album, N / O / I / S / E (No One Is Safe from Evil). The album has a very dark and aggressive style and it deals with themes of self-harm, self-mutilation, agoraphobia, and many other issues Ghostemane has dealt with personally. It is a step forward for his genre-bending sound—an energy that started in the underground and has led to hundreds of millions of streams across his catalog.

Ghostemane draws his influences from a vast array of content including psychedelics, Nine Inch Nails, Outkast, medieval magic, occultism, and Ancient Egyptian books.

    Show 8:00 pm

Smoke & Mirrors, Sasha Velour’s first one-queen show, is an effortless blend of drag, visual art, and magic. Velour introduces audiences to a whole new side of her artistry, through 13 dazzling and genre-busting lip-synch performances, all directed and choreographed by the queen herself. You’ll be on the edge of your seat as she explodes into rose petals, vanishes in a poof of smoke, saws herself in half, conjures a rainstorm, even transforms into a tree in front of your eyes (to name just a few). But the real magic is the way that these illusions and deceptions serve to unmask deeper truths,  sparking fresh analysis of gender, fame, family, and the importance of dreaming big and living life over-the-top.

Featuring the music of Annie Lennox, Whitney Houston, Shirley Bassey, Judy Garland, Celine Dion, Sia, Nina Simone, Le Tigre and more. Video created by Sasha Velour. Costumes designed by long-time collaborator Diego Montoya.

The show toured Australia and New Zealand with In The Dark Events in January 2019 to rave reviews. It debuted in the U.S. for the first time in March 2019 at New York Live Arts, played The Ace Theatre in downtown Los Angeles in May, and made its UK debut with two sold-out engagements at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London this August.

    and Vernon Reid
    Conducted by Matt Butler
Everyone Orchestra is a masterfully conducted, fully spontaneous explosion of live music created by a rotating cast of world renowned musicians and led by conductor Matt Butler. Each show is 100% unique, as a carefully curated lineup of performers is guided through high energy, creative, danceable grooves and beautiful songs that you won’t believe are created on the fly under the creative leadership of Matt’s cues and improvised whiteboard directives.

Unlike other one-off “super jams”, Everyone Orchestra does not borrow from other artists’ song lists, but rather draws on the funky, jazzy, soulful, electronic, and Americana roots of the musicians who come together in a consistently stunning display of raw talent and imaginative improvisation. Audience engagement also sets EO apart; fans are brought into the magic on-the-fly when Matt turns his whiteboard around to share a hand written theme for the next song (you might see “Funk in A” or “Space Jam”), or a chorus for the crowd to join in the rhythm. Having conducted members of bands ranging from the Grateful Dead to The Meters, Ween, King Crimson, Phish, Jane’s Addiction and hundreds more, Matt Butler has mastered the art of drawing the best and most multi-dimensional talents of performers from all genres and backgrounds, pulling the sounds together in an extraordinary cohesive experience that you don’t want to miss,

    Magic Beans/Mungion

Magic Beans have steadily built upon their national notoriety in a short period of time with a distinguishable sound that is uniquely their own. Hailing from Denver, the band’s combo of funk/soul/rock has quickly set themselves apart from the pack as one of the state’s premier acts. The Beans made their Red Rocks debut in April of 2019, prior to releasing their new album, Off Leash, on June 21st, 2019. The new album, “Off Leash”, is a testament to the group shedding the restraints of genre based music in favor of embracing different elements found across the musical realm. It was also an exercise in pushing the band’s sound forward, building upon the last release as opposed to simply recreating the sound. Magic Beans use analog and vintage instrumentation to get a style that is both familiar but original. A B3 Organ here, a Wah guitar there – Vintage Synthesizers, and 808 drums (to name a few) make the music reminiscent of your favorite songs, while still sounding fresh. The Beans make music that moves your mind and body, with something for everyone from the audiophiles to the everyday music fan.

Since their inception in Spring of 2015, Mungion (pronounced mung-yin) is quickly becoming known for their undeniably explosive and charismatic live shows. The Chicago-based four-piece is rooted in their ambitious compositions and improvisational ability. Drawing inspiration from a wide array of musical styles, they create a raucous, yet jubilant sound all of their own.  Known for their whimsical songs and goofy stage antics, Mungion’s joyous presence is a natural extension of its members, making for live performances that are infectiously lighthearted and deeply sincere. However, underlying the band’s quirky nature is a tremendous amount of virtuosity across all of its members. Combined, this talent and playfulness emboldens the group to be fearless in the studio and on stage. Mungion is guaranteed to have you smiling ear to ear and leaving wanting more.

    GARCIA PEOPLES

It’s been a small, happy wonder to watch Garcia Peoples transmit themselves to the outside world. From up close, they’re almost too omnipresent to keep track of, playing frequently, and out watching shows around Brooklyn on nearly any other given night. Honing their chops first at their respective parents’ places, playing until they had to unplug for the night, Arakaki and Malach would inevitably retire to the 7-11 parking lot. There, they pieced together the emerging jams, fragments, verses, and other stray ideas they had yet to write, until–at least in the Garciaverse–they coalesced into distinct albums. Then they just had to record them. As of this writing, they’re only one album behind. Like a road map with constantly changing coordinates, the Garcias’ master plan is only barely that, but they plunge into the next territory with an infectious enthusiasm

Joining the night are local heavy hitters Wreaths, Birthwater and Judo Chop.

Get ready to experience the groovy sights & sounds of the Sixties, from both sides of the Atlantic!

The American “musical response” follows, with memorable hits by celebrated artists such as The Monkees, Tommy James, and The Doors, to name just a few.
The performance concludes with an extraordinary finale paying tribute to the four lads from Liverpool who started it all, The Beatles!
The British Invasion Years has shared the stage with legendary recording artists such as: The Beach Boys, Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band, Herman’s Hermits and many, many more!

    ABOUT THE BAND
Live & session musicians Bobby M (Bass) and Lee Scott Howard (Guitar) credit seeing The Beatles’ debut on Ed Sullivan with setting them both on the road to becoming full-time musicians. Decades later, their common career paths would finally merge…
One night, after collaborating on another project, these best of friends developed the concept of an exciting, unique concert experience, meticulously recreating all the amazing hit songs they grew up listening to, complete with period accurate outfits and multimedia.
In that moment, the foundation for The British Invasion Years was forged…
Bobby & Lee had worked on other musical endeavors along side seasoned keyboardist/guitarist Jon Wolf. Jon had caught wind of their idea and wanted in. He dropped “subtle hints” at sessions, like randomly playing pieces of The Beatles’ Abbey Road medley. Well, Jon’s plan worked! He got their attention alright, and was immediately brought on board.
Bobby and veteran drummer Dave Hall have been longtime friends, as well as members of a wildly successful regional club band a number of years back. Lee and Jon also knew Dave and had always wanted to work with him. Turns out, Dave felt the same way. When the band was searching for a drummer, Dave just happened to be available at the right time. So he enthusiastically answered the call and joined forces with his other three friends.
With the lineup now complete, the group that would soon come to be regarded as the “Four Boys Making All That Noise” launched its musical “invasion”!

The hallmark of this era was Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, the original frontman and founding member of the Grateful Dead, whose inimitable vocals, stage presence, organ, percussion and harmonica was a gigantic part of the band’s initial appeal and a huge influence on their sound and that of the Bay Area scene as a whole.

Box of Rain embraces Pigpen’s gigantic influence, and includes harmonica in their all-star lineup that features current and former members of Dark Star Orchestra, Zen Tricksters, Living Earth, Boris Garcia and Dead On Live. This is good ol’ Grateful Dead at its best!

lespecial carve their own sonic path in modern music, creating their signature blend of “heavy future groove”. The power trio’s fresh synthesis of varied and divergent influences doesn’t underestimate the listener, reflecting a post-modern cultural climate in which fans have space on their aural palette for J Dilla, Radiohead, King Crimson and Fela Kuti. Veering from hip-hop to metal, prog to house, pensive indie-rock to apocalyptic dub, leaving room for head banging and hip swaying alike, while still presenting a unified sound and vision.

    MORGAN EVANS
    with special guest Madison Kozak

Praised by Rolling Stone as “a savvy performer with strong songwriting chops,” Australian-born rising country artist Morgan Evans is gearing up for the follow-up to his highly acclaimed debut album, Things That We Drink To. The project featured his No. 1 debut U.S. single Kiss Somebody, as well as Day Drunk.
Forging a path as one of the genre’s up-and-coming stars, he has been named to People’s elite Ones to Watch 2018 list and spotlighted as an emerging artist by CMT, SiriusXM, Pandora, Rolling Stone, Billboard, Bobby Bones, The Tennessean and more.
A bonafide country force in Australia, the native of Newcastle, New South Wales has garnered countless awards and honors, most recently claiming Country Work of the Year for Kiss Somebody at the 2018 APRA Music Awards. After sharing the bill with global superstar Taylor Swift, country hit-maker Cole Swindell and more A-list acts, Evans’ 10 in 10 Tour of 10 shows in 10 days included sold-out headline dates in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and New York. He was a special guest on Chris Young’s Losing Sleep World Tour and hit the road with Old Dominion on the Make It Sweet Tour early in 2019.

    Del McCoury Band
    with The Dark City Strings

    Doors: 7:00pm
    Show: 8:00pm

Even among the pantheon of music’s finest artists, Del McCoury stands alone. From the nascent sound of bluegrass that charmed hardscrabble hillbilly honkytonks, rural schoolhouse stages, and the crowning glory of the Grand Ole Opry to the present-day culture-buzz of viral videos and digital streams, Del is the living link. On primetime and late-night television talk shows, there is Del. From headlining sold-out concerts to music festivals of all genres, including one carrying his namesake, there is Del. Where audiences number in the tens of thousands, and admirers as diverse as country-rock icon Steve Earle and jamband royalty Phish count as two among hundreds, there is Del.

Emerging from humble beginnings in York County, PA nearly eighty years ago, Del was not the likeliest of candidates for legendary status. As a teen, he was captivated by the banjo playing of one of its masters, Earl Scruggs, and decided he’d be a banjo picker, too. The Baltimore/Washington, D.C. bar scene of the early 1960s was lively and rough. Del caught a break. More than a break, really. It was an opportunity of a lifetime; joining Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys in early 1963. Considered the Father of Bluegrass, Monroe transformed McCoury, moving him from the banjo to guitar, anointing him lead singer, and providing him with a priceless trove of bluegrass tutelage direct from the source.

Countless hours of recording sessions and miles of tireless touring dotted the decades. Del carried on, and carried with him the hallowed traditions of the form and its dedicated following. The passing years became certificates of authenticity. So, in the sea of grunge and R&B that dominated the music scene of the mid-1990s, it was special, perhaps even startling, to see: There was Del.

With over 1400 legendary late nights, sold-out clubs and triumphant festivals under their belts, theNEWDEAL returns with a passion in 2019 with ‘TND3’ – the third incarnation of the renowned live electronica trio: Jamie Shields (keyboards), Dan Kurtz (bass), and new drummer Davide Di Renzo.

The band’s evolution through three drummers has now brought theNEWDEAL closer to its original direction. “With Davide, it’s a bit like ‘coming back home’, as he was the drummer that inspired our original direction back in 1998 when the three of us played an impromptu gig together in Guelph, Ontario.  Each of the band’s drummers has brought something unique to theNEWDEAL, and with Davide we’re reaching back to move forward with the organic-infused improvisation that has long-inspired a big part of theNEWDEAL sound,” explains keyboardist Jamie Shields.
