Cape Fear Kooks: an Evening of Surf Art, Film & Fireworks

Lightly Salted Surf Mercado, Asbury Park's retro-fashioned surf and art gallery, will ring in its independence this year with "Cape Fear Kooks", an all-encompassing, celebratory evening featuring art, surf and symbols of American freedom.

In true surfer-style, owners Marilyn Schlossbach and Scott Szegeski will kick-off the Saturday, Fourth of July evening with a premiere of work by renowned surf photographer Ryan Tatar, as well as other, surf artists.Afterwards, "Under the Sun", an Australian surf documentary by Emmy Award-winning Cyrus Sutton, will screen outside the oceanfront, boardwalk surf shop.To close, the city of Asbury Park will round out the beach-inspired evening with a fantastic, Fourth of July fireworks display.

Ryan Tatar - Renowned surf photographer Ryan Tatar is acclaimed for his classic, surf culture eye.Whether it's a rusty van, single fin, salty seafarer, or surf kook, Tatar's photos underscore the essence of what surf travel is all about.Using only manual cameras, most from the 60's and 70's era, including a Holga and Polaroid, Tatar's work has been featured in art shows throughout Japan, Brazil, California, and the East Coast.
